Top deals this week.
2009 Domaine du Tariquet ‘Classic’, 10.5%vol, France (£6.17 as part of a mixed dozen, otherwise £6.49; Oxford Wine Co 01865 301144). A light and refreshing blend of colombard and ugni blanc from the inimitable Grassa family and their estate, Domaine du Tariquet in Gascony. Aromatic, fruity yet crisply dry on the finish, it is commendably low in alcohol and ideal for spring. Drink on its own or with simple salads or sushi.
2007 Domaine Zinck Pinot Blanc Portrait, 13%vol, France, (£6.99 if you buy two as part of a mixed half dozen, reduced from £7.49, until April 26; Majestic). From father and son, Paul and Philippe Zinck, a scrumptious Alsatian pinot blanc. Another great wine for spring that’s soft, smooth and creamy with a crisp touch to the (dry) finish. What I’ve enjoyed most this week: 2008 Baglio Rosso Nero d’Avola, 13%vol, Sicily, (£5.99; Marks & Spencer). 100 per cent nero d’avola from the Cantina Sociale Viticultori Associati in southern Sicily, made especially for M & S. Lengthy maceration gives it a wonderfully deep purple colour while fermentation and maturation in steel vats ensures a vibrant freshness to the ripe, juicy damson/plum/mulberry fruit. It could stand a bit of chilling and is delicious with cold beef. More wine deals at Telegraph Wine Shop
